Though Gas Prices Decline Slightly, Thefts Continue
Although consumers have seen a very slight relief from skyrocketing gasoline prices, area merchants continue to report thefts.
Two such reports were filed by employees of Kuntry Kupboard, 2339 U.S. Highway 43 South during the weekend. Employees reported they believed both incidents were perpetrated by the same individuals.
Just before 8:00 p.m. Saturday, they told Lawrenceburg Police Officers, the driver of a light colored Toyota truck pulled to the pumps and stopped, while the passenger got out and pumped $44.36 worth of gas. When he finished, they report that the passenger got back into the truck and the driver pulled away without paying.
A short twelve hours later, employees report almost exactly the same thing occurred. Around 8:00 a.m. Sunday employees report that a light colored Toyota truck again pulled to the pumps. Once again, the passenger exited and pumped gasoline. The driver then pulled away without paying.
During the second incident, employees report that $28.97 worth of gasoline was stolen.
Both incident remain under investigation at the present time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
